We are delighted to announce the extension of the Historian-in-Residence for Children programme.
In 2020, the Creative Residency @ Richmond Barracks appointed Dublin’s first Historian-in-Residence for Children, Dervilia Roche. She will now continue in the role for a further twelve months, until September 2022.
Commenting on the announcement, Iseult Byrne, CEO of Dublin City Council Culture Company, said:
“At the Culture Company, we create partnerships to try out ideas, test new approaches and add to the cultural story of the city. Dervilia’s appointment as Dublin’s first Historian-in-Residence for Children as part of our Creative Residency @ Richmond Barracks programme has enabled us to connect with children and families through history and stories.
It’s testament to Dervilia’s fantastic work that we and our partners Dublin City Libraries have decided to extend this residency for a further year. We see huge potential to build on the success of the past year, both in terms of the Historian-in-Residence for Children role and future of our Creative Residency partnerships.”

“Dervilia has delivered a fantastic programme in the first year of the Historian-in-Residence for Children Creative Residency @ Richmond Barracks. Dublin City Libraries are delighted to work with Dervilia and the team at Dublin City Council Culture Company to develop the project further.
By extending the residency, many more children will get to explore the history of the city and its suburbs through workshops and creative projects, over the next year. We also look forward to Dervilia’s involvement in the Dublin Festival of History and Children’s Book Festival programmes this autumn.
